You’ve begun your career as an academic scientist! Your lab is up and running, and your research program is under way. But the pressure is on to find financial support for your research from sources other than your institution! It’s time to practice the art of getting funded. This seminar will focus primarily on NIH R01 grants, investigator-initiated research project grants for which most beginning academic investigators apply. The seminar will provide an overview of the NIH funding process and the two-level review system. The steps involved in preparing a strong R01 grant application will be detailed, including turning your concept into a solid research plan, making sure that individuals with the appropriate expertise review your application, and deciding what to if your application is not funded.
