Save the Date: National Postdoc Appreciation Week – Encourage Your Unit to Join the Celebration
Save the date for the 10th Annual National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week – September 16-20, 2019, and join the UF Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and National Postdoctoral Association in celebration of UF’s 750 early-career researchers and their significant contributions to research and discovery.
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs encourages any interested labs, departments, and colleges to host an event, activity, or prize drawing for UF Postdocs during National Postdoctoral Appreciation Week. The OPA will be compiling a UF-wide calendar of NPAW events and is available to assist with events as needed. Please submit a brief description of your unit’s Postdoc appreciation plans. Note that plans do not need to be fully scheduled or finalized. Event details will be requested in August 2019.

Genomics: Insights, Accepting Short Articles on Genomics Research for the Public
The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) has partnered with the Smithsonian to provide a monthly online digital publication called Genomics: Insights for post-baccs, graduate students, and postdoctoral trainees to communicate research topics and findings in the field of genomics!
Published articles will include content spanning a variety of disciplines within genomics and be written to concisely communicate findings to a lay audience. Communicating science to the public is an important skill for scientists and this is an exciting opportunity to develop scientific communication skills!
Submit by July 16th, 2019 to be considered for the August 2019 Publication
Submissions must be between 500-1500 words and can include a maximum of 2 exhibits (figures or tables).
• Who is eligible to submit: Post-baccs, Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Trainees
• What to submit: a) Interesting genomics research you wish to communicate with the public b) An article demystifying public perception of a genetics and/or genomics concept regarding a recently published or discussed scientific finding c) An overview of a cutting-edge topic within the field
• Who will review: The NHGRI Trainee Editorial Board will review based on overall relevance, overall timeliness, scientific merit, editorial aspects (grammar, format) , and non-technical literacy
