From Postdoc to Industry Workshop, September 4
Are you thinking about transitioning to a career in industry, but are not sure where to start? Here’s your chance to talk to a former UF Postdoc who’s made the jump to industry and ask candid questions about your hopes and concerns.
Join Dr. Harneet Arora, UF Postdoc Alumnus, and learn how she leveraged her academic research experience to start her career in industry. Dr. Arora is a physiotherapist by background. She completed her PhD and Postdoc at UF, where she gained experience in clinical research, clinical trials, and project management. She leveraged that experience to land her current position in clinical project management where she is managing clinical trials at a global level.
Part 1: Tips for Approaching the Industry Job Search.
September 4, 12:00 – 12:55 pm
Dr. Arora will share key tips for approaching the industry job search then will lead a group discussion on some of the myths and concerns that surround the academic to industry career transition.
Part 2: Industry Resume Review Session
September 4, 1:00 – 2:00 pm
Do you have an industry resume draft you would like Dr. Arora’s feedback on? Sign-up to receive one-on-one resume advice in a virtual group setting. So that the greatest number of postdocs can benefit from the resume critique session, the sessions will be open for other participants to observe. Please only sign up for a resume critique if you are willing to let your peers observe your resume review session and listen in on Dr. Arora’s feedback. Following each critique, observers will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Apply for the Power of Peers (POP) Circle Program with Counterspace Consulting LLC
The NPA Diversity Officers and Counterspace Consulting LLC are partnering to offer a free group coaching experience for a small group of postdoctoral NPA members. The Power of Peers (POP) Circle Program is a self-sustaining, peer-coaching group that offers ongoing professional development with a community of peers. Each POP Circle includes 5-7 people from a particular career stage who meet virtually every other week for 1.5 hours. Each participant defines the focus of their coaching time during each meeting and commits to a contract for action before the next meeting. All participants receive the same amount of work time and are guided to solutions by their peers rather than being provided with solutions.
Each POP Circle will be launched and facilitated by Claire Horner-Devine, Ph.D., for the first three meetings. She will introduce the program structure and provide coaching support. After that, each POP Circle will continue to meet on its own every other week.
What is in it for me?
POP Circle participants develop problem-solving and coaching skills. Participation leads to increased career self-efficacy, increased sense of belonging, and peer accountability to make changes happen. Meeting regularly supports you to make time for problem solving and professional development as challenges and opportunities arise.
How do I participate?
If you are interested in applying for the NPA POP Circle program, or to learn more and apply for this free program, please complete this brief application survey by Monday, August 24. Applications will be reviewed and up to 7 applicants will be selected to launch a POP Circle. We realize that not everyone will have an opportunity to participate and wish we were able to offer the program more broadly! Please let us know what questions you have.
How can I learn more?
