UF Postdoc Writing Program Spring 2021 Virtual Writing Retreats

Join the UF Postdoc Writing Program virtual writing retreats to meet your spring writing goals in a supportive community of peers. Virtual writing retreats will be held the last Tuesday of each month, 1pm – 4:30pm. Each session consists of a 15 minute group check-in at the beginning of the session, 3 hours of writing, and a 15 minute group check-out at the end of the session. Once you have registered, you will receive the retreat zoom link.

Check-in’s are for the purpose of setting writing goals, leveraging peer accountability, and sharing strategies for overcoming resistance to writing.

Translational Science Interagency Postdoctoral Fellowship – Applications Due Feb. 15th


The Translational Science Interagency Fellowship (TSIF) is a new postdoctoral fellowship opportunity developed by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  Fellows will be jointly mentored by NCATS and FDA scientists on a research project of mutual interest to both organizations. Fellows in this program will develop skills of value to future careers in academia, the pharmaceutical industry and government.

At the FDA, fellows will receive formal training and mentoring in:

  • Relevant federal statutes, and
  • Regulations, principles and practices of FDA medical product review.

At NCATS, fellows will receive formal training and mentoring in:

  • The early stages of technology development, and
  • Preclinical and clinical translational science.

Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents and have two years or less of postdoctoral training.  More information about potential projects, mentors, and the application process can be found here.

New Tool to Facilitate Postdoc Evaluations: UF Engaged
UFHR will be introducing “UF Engaged” for postdoc associates in early March 2021, as a new approach to appraisals designed to encourage regular feedback, rather than a once-a-year evaluation. PI’s will get a quarterly reminder to provide feedback to postdoc associates, arranged around each postdoc’s hire anniversary date. Postdocs will also receive an email notification when it is time to submit a self-assessment.

Preparing Future Faculty Spring 2021 – Apply Now!


The UF Graduate School, UF Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, and the UF Center for Teaching Excellence invite you to apply for the Spring 2021 Preparing Future Faculty (PFF) Program, which will meet via Zoom Mondays from 3:00 p.m. to 5 p.m. over 13 weeks, starting January 25 and ending April 19.

This program will cover important aspects of being a successful faculty member, faculty expectations at different kinds of institutions, and effective teaching and learning methods. It will involve weekly virtual meetings, assignments, and a mentoring component. It will not address developing job application materials or interviewing for faculty jobs.

This program is open to graduate students and postdocs from any UF department. Participants will be chosen on a competitive basis.

The Postdoc Academy is a digital professional development program designed specifically for postdocs. Its first, free online course, titled “Succeeding as a Postdoc“, was released on Jan. 13. The Academy will run for five weeks.
